Shame about the decals
Do let Hannant know about them though
It seems some Xtradecal sheets are substandard like this
AFAIK they want to know which sheets so they can sort the problem
~~ and you never know they might send you a new sheet

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

That is a shame about the decals. At least you still have a very cool looking Meteor.

Guys, it is NOT the xtradecals that are the problem it is the decals provided with the Xtrakit Meteor that are breaking up. Replacements have been ordered.

Hope you get a prompt replacement. That clean masking job is brilliant! I've got the same kit but I'm building it in a RAE ripple scheme when I get round to it.

Missed looking in on this for a while; the camouflage demarcation is spot on! Very sharp indeed.
Best wishes

That is a very sharp paint job Tony and hopefully you won't be delayed too long with the replacement decals.

Shaun,
One thing is for sure (I hope), is that the decals should be sitting under my letter box on my return from Cuba - indeed, they are 'on their way' so I may have them before leaving for the airport on Monday afternoon.

MDT, I am not going to try Xtrakit for replacements, I cannot imagine that they would be any better, so Xtradecals set for me.

I know will sound thick - But I always assumed xtrakits had xtradecals in them - is that not the case?

Well, I have no idea Sir T, whilst the use of X rather than Ex might imply the same company, my understanding from Hannants is that Xtradecals have taken over Modeldecals. I am hoping that the quality of Xtradecals is superior to the Xtrakit offerings, but if you are right, I am going to be one unhappy bunny. For instance: Aviprint produced the decals in the Xtrakit Sea Vixen, whilst XtraDecals have aftermarket additions for same, so I am inclined to think 2 separate companies. Then again, I've just read a review on this model saying the decals are 'excellent and by Xtradecals'!

I received the XtraDecals set of serial numbers/letters today. The down side is that the Meatbox fuselage serial numbers are 8" and that requires that I order yet another set!

It is my last night in Cuba :-(, I guess I will have to face up to the fact that on Thursday I will be back at the modelling 'grind stone'. Fingers crossed the replacement cockades decals are sat amongst the junk mail when I fight my way through the front door. Just enjoying a sundowners G&T before the evening meal. ¡Hasta luago amigos!

I have finally been able to grab a little time to get some work done on the Meteor. The replacement decals have proven to be far better than the originals and so now the model is looking better; it is, as you all know only too well, a slow process. If I can, I will post some photos later although I am off out to my local IPMS meeting tonight. It is unlikely that I will complete the model by the deadline, unfortunately, I have only a couple of hours available tomorrow and my weekend will be taken-up with dismantling the interior of a conservatory for 'she who must be obeyed'. So my 2 week 'skive' in Cuba has tripped me up - I blame the catastrophe with the original decals myself!!!

I have spent a reasonable amount of time today working on decal placement using a combination of the original kit decals and those in the Modeldecal set. The Xtrakit originals have better 'white' definition than those of the Modeldecal set and, mostly, they are behaving satisfactorily. The fact of the matter is, however, that I am not going to have this model completed today and therefor I have failed this GB - so close but yet so far!!!
I want to complete the decaling- allow everything to dry thoroughly and then coat the entire aircraft with Galaria Matt varnish, after which the undercarriage, U/C doors, aerials etc need to be fitted. Alas that all adds up to a 'job to far' as I am off in an hour or so. Anyway, here is the current state of play:
