Re: Ray'S Atlas
It is an Anigrand C-17 Globemaster III Shaun, a very long-term project. It has been going for about 10 years to date with all the updates I am making to get to look like a C-17.ShaunW wrote:Looking good, Ray and the Abrams peeping out of the rear gives a good idea of size. What's the other aircraft? another A-400 but in a larger scale? I thought it might be a C-160 Transall but I'm not sure!
I rebuilt the cockpit area as the original kit shape was abysmal, looked more like a Thunderbird 2 windscreen than a McDonnell Douglas product.
Close but no cigarKitaholic wrote:That is looking mighty impressive and beautifully done.
Going by the amount of filler and the basic tan colour I would guess the rear one is an Anigrand Globemaster II

Re: Ray'S Atlas
I am looking forward to the injection molded C-17 that is supposed to be coming though really would like a 72nd C-5 injection kit.
Atlas is looking good. Might have to break down and grab one afterall.

Looking great Ray, keep up the good work!
Best wishes

Re: Ray'S Atlas
Major subassemblies have now gone together now
With some more gaps to contend with
I also added an APU exhaust pipe which is quite prominent on the upper fuselage, still to reshaped and tidied up

Where do you find to display these biggies that you build?

It's certainly an impressive beastie, Ray! Alas your taped together dry run highlights that the fit of some of the parts/sub-assemblies might be less than desirable - very much like the Revell Eurofighter that is gracing my bench at the moment!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Ray'S Atlas
David, I have some display cases with room on top of them for my bigger efforts. I also have a display case that can take 2 1/72 P-3s on one shelf or a 1/72 C-130 and a smaller model. I have just installed a new large shelf for some bigger models that will take a number of the A400M/B707 sized models. Though I will run out of room once I get some of those finished.dwomby wrote:Where do you find to display these biggies that you build?

I try to put some on stands so I can stagger them to fit more on the shelves.
I am not sure if the fit issue was a result of my wiring efforts. I have seen elsewhere that others have had issues fitting the wing to the fuselage as well.ShaunW wrote:It's certainly an impressive beastie, Ray! Lovely display space there, Ray.
I also see an Enterprise and an NSEA Protector in there!

A great looking set of display cabinets, Ray, containing some excellent looking models - indeed I believe I can see some competition winners in there!

Re: Ray'S Atlas
Thanks chaps.
I started to mask so some priming could be done. I am using the Eduard mask set which is great (to a point)
Something not quite right and then I figured it out, only 2 masks for the nose wheels and an extra pair for the mains, 13 main wheels? Most of the wheels are on 2 sprues, the 2 outboard nose wheel parts are on a 3rd sprue, so I expect they were missed by the Eduard folk. I had to reuse the 2 nose wheel masks to do the outboard sides
Gear legs assembled and wheels painted black, though they now need redoing after they were assembled and seams removed.
More seam work
Props painted
and the power plants ready to fit
Some primer on and some more putty to follow. Will it end?
