CBK at Halifax (nee Huddersfield) 2019 "Your Best Five CBKs"

What makes a British kit a Classic? What Classic kit is really British? What is the SIG all about and what goes on...from initial musings, to full on campaigning. It'll all be here, interspersed with talk of Texan Bars, Alias Smith & Jones and The Flashing Blade, Footy Cards and Bath Night, before School.

Hope you all have a great show guys. I unfortunately won't be there. The car needs some work and there's the bathroom to paint so I won't be having a great time

All the best

Well the fears about the parking seemed to resolve themselves as their was plenty of free parking around the site. We started setting up around 9am with Shane and Craig bringing up the rear. My initial plan of having a more regulated approach went out the window, especially when Matt arrived with everything still packed from Telford. We kept the additional materials to a minimum which gave everything room to breath, and was well worth it as we had of steady stream of interested punters. Thanks to the usual suspects Iain, Shane, Craig, Shaun and Matt, for chat, coffee and Eccles cakes!

Nice! I spy a couple of my little 'uns in there! Hopefully, I can make a contribution to this year's SMW display.

I know myself and Craig thoroughly enjoyed the day, always great to catch up with the usual suspects especially as we didn't do Telford last year. Thanks go to James for running the operation on the day and to Matt for the Starfighter and Wessex he kindly donated to the stash pile.

That always depends on what you were after. I sure there were plenty if you wanted kits that came in large boxes.

For me I got the new Airfix Phantom FGR2 for £20 (RRP £25) from our friend Chris of Kit'sKits and another trader was doing the same. I found Matt a reboxed ICM 1/25 Lola T-70 for £20 and there was one going for triple that on ebay. Matt also found a Heller Porsche 917K for the same money so he was happy. Iain contained himself until the last 10 minutes and returned with a arm full of plastic bags of various oldies for a few quid. There wasn't as much under the table action as in previous years though Craig's box of goodies dwindled steadily through the day.

I thought it was a good day out and it was great to see the CBK gang plus Darryl and his wife over at the Cold War stand again and have a natter. The Halifax venue was very reminiscent of the old Huddersfield sports centre but with better lighting and the car parking issue did not end up being quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. Bargains? there wasn't a glut but I did manage to pick up a 1/35th Tamiya T-62A for a tenner from a dealer, a 1/76th Revell/Matchbox M40 GMC from another dealer for £7 and a 1/76th Airfix Matador and 5.5" gun from Craig for a fiver. Hopefully the show will settle into its new home!

I hated the place and the time restraints of the limited parking time only make me wish for a return to Huddersfield.

The only time restraint was in the Sainsbury's carpark. There was sufficient free carparking within 5mins walk of the Leisure Centre. I understand that for those with mobility issues this would be a problem but I believe there were disabled spaces available at the Leisure Centre.

Yes it's not as good as the new Huddersfield venue but it is better than the old one. Unfortunately it seems the council did not want to rent the space out.

I barely know Halifax but from what I could gather, all Calderdale Council car parks in the town have no charge for Sunday parking. The North Bridge car park which is adjacent to the venue unfortunately is in use from 6am until 1pm every Sunday for the car boot sale and, judging by signs dotted around that car park, the car boot sale is a long established event and as it stands I can't see how the show organisers would be able to avoid clashing with the sale unless they changed to a Saturday but then the car parking wouldn't be free in any event. I agree, the new Huddersfield sports centre is a better venue with easily accessible adjacent car parking for a nominal charge but, overall, I thought the Halifax centre was up to the job.
