Three became two yesterday, but I caught up with David and Richard plus TeeEll at Boscombe Down in the morning, and as they were having so much fun there clambering in and out of jet cockpits, and immersing themselves in the cockpit of a lanc, and taking selfies each time .... and talking to the guides - some of whom are ex-test pilots, and very knowledgeable the morning just vapourised, so an hour driving down to Yeovilton was not practical, instead I suggested the museum of Army Flying, at Middle Wallop on the outskirts of Andover and that is where we moved onto. I knew it had spent thousands on an overhaul and customer experience - but that place was amazing - the complete opposite of BDAC - it was warm, dry, clean and has a nice cafe and viewing area of flying from the military camp next door.

Safe travels to the pair of you if you see this before takeoff

I see it!
Yes, a wonderful day, including the weather!
BDAC and the Army Flying Museum well worth visiting.
Thanks for steering us, Chris. Lovely to meet your mum!

We are all packed and tidying up at the airbnb. We have hours to kill before our 4:30 pm rental car return so are ambitious about RAF Hendon today (Richard has not been, plus Hannants nearby, just for a browse, you understand).

Thanks, again, everyone!

Signing out for a few days until I am back at the workbench.

David,
It’s a long shot, but might you be able to measure the circumference of the Demon Turret example they have? The turret ring would suffice. Understand if you cannot.

That conversation at Hendon could go very badly wrong...

Thanks, all!
No Demon, sorry, Tony, but loads of Wessex on display, plus Wildcats and Merlins in the circuit. Hang on! That's not RAF Hendon! That's the FAA Museum at Yeovilton!😬
We took a wrong turn to dodge all the traffic constraints around London. Plus we had no tape measure! 😆
Glad we changed our mind this time.

All checked-in at Heathrow now.

See ya!

Thanks to David for organising this trip of a lifetime and thanks to Paul for being a great travelling companion - it was fantastic to visit so many museums as well as attend SMW and get to meet some of you lovely folk here in person. Done my final bit of duty-free shopping here at LHR and can you believe I’m leaving the UK without a single kit?! (That’s what happens when you have a fair-sized stash). However I more than made up for it with a few books and decals. That will hopefully not be my last SMW to attend in person but it may be a few years between drinks - in the meantime I’ll endeavour to make my presence known on UAMF — onwards & upwards…
