Airfix 1/72 Hurricane I SKGB ***Complete & Archived ***

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Following our poll and voting, this is one of the two Airfix 1/72 Single Kit GBs we will run this year.
See https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=23650 and https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=23660.

This is for the new-tool 1/72 Hurricane Mk I kit and will run August 5th through September 17th with Paul Bradley as GBL.

I would like to join this as I want to build a model representing the only Sep 1939 Hurricane that has been photographed and noted as belonging to 29(F) Sqn. Unfortunately it is a ‘tin wing’ Hurricane and the Alley Cat conversion is no longer available so I’ll not be able to join in unless I find the conversion somewhere!

I believe I have sourced a second hand conversion kit. Will its use be acceptable or have I strayed too far from the GB concept?

Actually, as the base kit for the conversion is the GB kit, you are good to go, Tony!

I’ve managed to get hold of a resin ‘tin wing’ conversion for the Airfix kit. It is bathing in IPA to remove the paint just now. I also need to prise out the ‘wheels up’! So I am now a definite for this GB. I know exactly which aircraft I will be building.

Transfusion out of the way, chemo coming up, new aquatic & physical therapy starts this week for the next 8 weeks, etc. Should be some bench time in there :) .

I have 5 -2067 kits and a 1010 kit (plus 2 WIP or missing parts), so I'll step in with the -2067, built w/Watts prop, fabric wing, and appropriate v.early markings, which I haven't picked out yet. My started -1010 kit was less the cockpit, to be done TGA style, and that is probably how this will be done also. I'm over spurious detail like that, more into exterior markings telling stories.

Might be a couple days, I have to survive the 1st Aquatic Therapy session.

"Aquatic therapy"? - as it floating in a pool?

Good to hear you are up for this John - welcome aboard!

It’s my understanding the instructor(she) likes motion not floating - aquatic is supposed to be easier than physical stuff so more is better. Not sure if I am floating face down :). Wait until Tuesday afternoon.
