Bandai 1/12 Boba Fett

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Bandai 1/12 Boba Fett

Post by JamesPerrin »

I pulled this down from the stash last week while looking for kits for GBs. I decided to build this in a similar manner as the Stormtrooper I did a few years ago and make use of the coloured plastic. It was a more obvious thing to do with the trooper but Bob (to his friends) has one of the most elaborate outfits in Star Wars. There are plenty of "screen accurate" builds out there and I didn't feel the need to compete.

First off was to build all the main sub-assemblies, and tidied up the joins. I then added the decals I wanted to use, stickers and decals are supplied. Both sets cover a myriad of small details down to his belt buckles. Now the decals are almost impossible to confirm over details so I've no idea how they thought the stickers would work. I used a subset of decals (heavy applications of Tamiya MarkFit were used) and painted the rest of the details with enamels. Oil washes were then used over almost every service and wiped off later with a makeup sponge - I made the mistake of not sealing my painted details with acrylic varnish and needed to go back and touch up the damage. Battle scars were applied to the armour and rocket pack with a torn piece of sponge dipped in silver paint. Everything got sealed with a statin coat. The only other things I used the airbrush for were his gun and cloak as the plastic colour wasn't a good match.

A quickish and enjoyable build. I did find during final construction that the plastic had cracked in places. Very odd and I've never seen it before, I wondered if the white spirits had affected it as I saw no issues during initial construction.

Thanks to my daughter taking out a Disney+ subscription I have just binge watched (in three weeks) all of The Mandalorian, then Boba Fett as well as Obi Wan Kenobi and Andor series (the joys of being retired!) so I now have an interest in these things and thus appreciate your fine build here James.
Great work on the painting.
