C-130 GB ** Forum Now Open!**
I'm not necessarily chucking my hat into the ring to be GBL here (I will if needs be), but considering they've just been retired from RAF service I'm surprised nobody has suggested a C-130 GB yet?
Is it doable? I was thinking any scale, any kit, any mark etc - any C-130 in service throughout the world, not just the RAF?
Next year maybe?
Cheers!

Re: C-130 GB?
Wow, we have never had a C-130 GB before - perhaps completing a model of one is considered a Herculean task...?
We have had some very nice Herk kits in recent years - Zvezda and Italeri comes to mind - to go along with the older kits. And scales from 1/48 through 1/72 and 1/144 to 1/200, so it doesn't have to take up a vast amount of space.
I am up for that - I have a copy of the Airfix kit that is very partially started.
Definitely next year - the calendar for this year is full. And I'm happy to share GBL duties.

Re: C-130 GB?
I have an Airfix and Zvezda version in the stash (and no I'm not building both!) so would be up for this
Best wishes
Jim

LOL! I see what you did therePaulBradley wrote: ↑July 13th, 2023, 2:01 am Wow, we have never had a C-130 GB before - perhaps completing a model of one is considered a Herculean task...?
That's actually why I was pondering it - as it's quite a big aircraft; although I dare say no more complicated than any four engined bomber - probably simpler in some cases - that might put people off.
Next year would be good, and I'd say part started isn't an issue.PaulBradley wrote: ↑July 13th, 2023, 2:01 am

I have the Italeri 1/72 kit - for a C-130H. But you're right, there are some nice kits out there.
I'd be going for this kind of scheme.

Re: C-130 GB?
It varies a little but usually in Nova Scotia June, July, Aug and at least part of Sept.. This year was early - left here early May to attend a granddaughter's first birthday en route and returning early Sept..

Re: C-130 GB?
Okay so I'm shocked, I really didn't think this would get anywhere, but we have four people already (depending on dates).
If we get a few more (is it 6 or 8 we need?) bites and it looks like a goer, I'll be more than happy to be GBL, either on my own or joint with yourself Paul, if you're interested.

IIRC this was an aircraft that was used during the Ethiopian famine crisis that led to Band Aid then Live aid in '84 -'85.
It's only pain, work through it.

Re: C-130 GB?
I've just taken a look at the markings on the side - I hadn't noticed that, thanks Wokka. I was just using it as an example of a late cold war Green/Grey over light grey scheme.

Re: C-130 GB?
No laughing - that sounds an great idea for a conversion.DavidWomby wrote: ↑July 13th, 2023, 2:58 pmThat timing would be good. As to the kit, do not laugh, it will be the old Revell 1/144(approx) clunker converted to a lengthened C3 and with replacement engines and props from Aeroclub as used in this previous build of the kit as a C1.
David
I'm seriously looking at 1/144 at the moment - I'd like to build a lot of the 'larger' USAF and RAF aircraft and most aren't available in 1/72, and too big even if they were.

Re: C-130 GB?
Outside my usual interests, but one of the weather or search/rescue USCG birds regularly flying off our coast could be a good project. I shall have to do some kit & markings research before formally signing up and of course who knows about health issues.
