Nowhere in particular

Post by general rocket »

After several years years collecting rolling stock, Buildings, track and accessories, I am finally Building my model railway layout. N gauge.
I will be Building a shelf/shunting layout. I had wanted a continuous running layout, but for all the usual reasons this is not practical at the moment.
Based on one of C.J. Freezer's designs with a few alterations. I will be Building some of the buildings first so that I can properly work out the spacing of the platform and track.
The first one finished is Peco's Engine Shed.

Built with a few alterations, mainly moving the back door up to platform height, and detailing the interior. The brickwork has been done using the "Brick Building" kit from Hataka.

And with a customer. I bought the engine second hand and she is a lot tidier than she appears in the pictures.

I keep thinking about resurrecting my plans for a model railway, but at present I don't get enough time for modelling let alone a railway...I don't want one to exclude the other, because I'll end up doing neither but one day hopefully....🤞
Best wishes

Second finished is Peco's goods Shed. Built O.O.B. except for the addition of some packing cases inside to hide a large hole in the floor.

Nice work on those buildings - they're fun little builds. It reminds me that I need to finish the one that I had started for my son's railway, although he's not had it out of the box for 18months so I guess there's no rush.

Great looking signal box General, especially for tiny old N gauge. I've spent many a happy hour working in places like that, some of the cosiest warmest places on the planet which isn't necessarily a good thing as the signaller needs to be alert and on their toes at all time! The levers look superb but I am wondering if their is going to be room for the block shelf behind them?!

Thanks Beany, I fear the block shelf, which will hang from the roof.

Very nice train signal house. I´ve been inside one at Settle. Arguably one the oldest train stations in England.

Thanks both.
It really isn't a job I would have the bottle to do, terrified of the consequences of getting it wrong.
Unlike Beany.
Talking of getting it wrong, well not very. But I did loose a lot hair that I tore out while building the out side steps, and I don't have have enough to spare.

That looks great. I may have misled you though, I was a signalling engineer rather than a pukka signalman/woman hence having worked in pretty much every shape and style of signal box up and down the country (and some in Australia) over my 40+ year career. The smaller, mostly Victorian signal boxes were my favourites although I preferred the facilities offered by the 21st century control centres! Funnily enough one of the things my own layout is most deficient in is any signal boxes or actual signalling of any sort - not wanting to bring my work home maybe?!
