1/72 North American P-51D Mustang / Heller 80268
Hello all,
this is the Heller P-51D kit in 1/72. I used aftermarket decals because:
-> I wanted to avoid a NMF finish on that old kit
-> the Heller kit can be done as P-51D without fin fillet
-> I like the nose art
Thanks for looking
KM

I like to carve old kits into something roughly aircraft/tank shaped...

Interesting to see a Mustang in that scheme KM - I thought it was an Airacobra at first glance! Lovely finish you achieved with subtle panel lines and weathering.
The past, present, and future walked into a bar. It was tense.

That looks extremely neat. I really like the Heller kits from that period (mid 70s, early 80s).

That's a lovely P-51D, KM and it makes a nice change to see a D version in OD over Neutral Grey.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

That is a very neat, job!
I am not familiar with the old Heller kit, You have delivered a very eye-catching result.
Cheers,
David

Thank you all for your nice comments!
If you are not that much into cockpit detail, are OK with raised panel lines and can accept the "balloon tires", then the kit isn't even that bad
The worst part was the canopy, which had a way to high width and had to be sanded a lot around the edges to avoid an almost 1mm "overhang" of the canopy vs. the fuselage.
One strange thing about the tanks is that the filler cap is on the underside, while it should be on the top side, so the mounting holes were closed and re-done on the top side.
