1/35 Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär Sd.Kfz 166 / Tamiya 35077

Post by KellerModeller »

Hello all,

this is the Brummbär from Tamiya. "Brummbär" roughly translates to "growler" and is also used to describe a sometimes grumpy person. For some reason my wife gave me this kit for Christmas... A hidden message? :-D (BTW she said yes, the vehicles name inspired her to buy it for me  )

To reproduce the Zimmerit coating, I used a PE set from Eduard which I cut on our cheese plate because it is made of glass, so the PE parts won't bend.

Here is the result, I used the kit crew figures:

Thanks for looking

Perfect in every way. The build, the camouflage and the crew uniforms and faces.

A very elegant Brummbar KM. 8-) Lovely finish.

To be honest the PE Zimmerit looks a little too fine and delicate for the scale to me, but that's just a minor nitpick from an old nitpicker. :)
The past, present, and future walked into a bar. It was tense.

Thank you very much for your kind comments!! It`s far from perfect but I must confess I`m quite pleased how it turned out in the end to be honest :) .

You are definitely right, it is a too fine structure, but I did not find reference pics without Zimmerit and the readily available PE set was sooo tempting compared to trying self made Zimmerit :-D

Top notch, KM, a really great looking Sturmpanzer IV and crew. That Eduard PE Zimmerit is quite effective but, I agree, it does look a touch refined and could do with being a little rougher.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Thanks a lot! ☺️
There is also a new tool version (for a later mark of the SPG) available, but I think the old tool Tamiya kits are still building into nice models and going for very reasonable prices 😀
