1/72 Airfix Piper Cherokee

Post by Natter »

'Off to France for the Weekend'

The 1/72 Airfix Piper Cherokee was released in 1973. This has been built from the 2000 release of the kit with the figures from Preiser and a small MDF base done as the edge of a dispersal at a regional airfiels somewhere in the UK.

I built this model as a practice in blending and polishing transparencies, and rescribing a kit as the original panel lines were raised. The whip and wire aerials are my own additions. Plenty of fun was had along the way too, just how it is supposed to be.

I can’t imagine a finer build of this kit. Your experiment with blending the glazing in is a complete success - the transition at the front edge of the windscreen is very good

I'm with, James. This is a splendid result and great little diorama.

That is a fantastic build.

Lovely job, I have a couple of these in the stash, might have to try the you techniques on them when I get onto them.

Really excellent! I didn't even know of the existence of this Airfix kit. I like the chrome silver spinner and how you managed to get the gloss level exactly right in my opinion so that is does not look too flat but still the windows are a little "glossier" (is that a word? :???: ). The last picture almost looks like a real life photo, very good figure painting, especially the manˋs jeans (even though from fashion point of view today you might think he borrowed his girlfriend's jeans :-D :ha: )
I like to carve old kits into something roughly aircraft/tank shaped...

Awesome little scene, and I'm completely envious of your transparency skills! 8-)

That's a stunner in every respect Dave. Surprisingly it is the shape of the base that does it for me - much better than just a rectangular slab, then add to that what all of the guys have said above - brilliant!

Got to agree with all of the above - and more. That could almost be the real thing - certainly the aircraft could.
