What are you reading ?
Re: What are you reading ?
A good read and he does approach things from a different angle e.g. He talks about the build up of US industry years before the declaration of war and actually how succesfull the convoy systems were rather than how much tonnage was lost. His other books on Burma and N. Africa are also a good read and throw up some not so well known facts. His fiction books aren't bad either.
It's only pain, work through it.

Have read War in the West Parts 1 and 2. Waiting for Part 3.shangos70 wrote: ↑September 4th, 2022, 10:38 pm Currently reading James Hollands War in the West part II. Whilst on holiday I manged to get through 4 good books. Into the Black by Roland White which is about the lead up to the first Space Shuttle launch, Harrier 809 also by Roland White .Tornado by John Nichol and Great SAS Escapes by Damien Lewis.
Into the Black is excellent - one of the best books on the Shuttle programme.

Same here Eric, I enjoy Mr Hollands books, he manages to make them skip along nicely. I have his Brothers in Arms, By Tanks to Germany to follow on once I've finished my current read.Eric Mc wrote: ↑September 5th, 2022, 1:19 pmHave read War in the West Parts 1 and 2. Never was a fan of the Rings, but "Empire of the Clouds" is unmissable if you have an interest in aviation and a fondness for British aviation. There is a slight difference in content between the hardcover and paperback editions. (How would I know? )
And right now reading Jeffrey Quill's "A Test Pilot's Story" - thoroughly enjoyable and informative.
Cheers,
David

I read that as "Rab C Nesbitt".PaulBradley wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2011, 3:44 am Armed Rovers by Roy C Nesbit - RAF Beaufighter/Beaufort ops in the Med, WWII
Re: What are you reading ?
just finished reading 'Hurricane' by Adrian Stewart. It's a very detailed history of the aircraft during WW2 and lets just says it confirms what I thought - the Hurricane was a lot better than many give it credit for. I'd even go as far to say that overall it seemed to be a match for the Spitfire and Bf109

Re: What are you reading ?
In an effort to get away from spending too much time in front of screens this year I've ditched my Kindle and have started to read actually proper books this year...
I've been reading my way through this series and will hopefully getting the final fourth novel for Christmas - a cracking good read if you like futuristic-ish sci-fi mixed with a bit of steam/diesel punk, mad max and fantasy, filled with good natured inept drunken air pirates, daemons, and a bit of romance.
These are my two current reads.
The Lost Fleet series is some really good, almost 'real world' sci-fi - I've read up to book four on the Kindle years ago, but have re-started them in proper paperbacks this year. 'Dauntless is the first in the series.
The Red Arrow's book is really interesting if you haven't read it. I've had it on the go for a while and really must get around to finishing it.

The Spectacle of Flight: Aviation and the Western Imagination, 1920-1950 by Robert Wohl:
A fascinating look at how aviation intertwined with popular culture, starting with Lindbergh's flight and progressing through Mussolini's Italy, to Hollywood movies, and I'm currently reading the section about the symbiosis of Aeropostale and 1930's French literature.

Don't laugh, 'the Last Devil to Die' by Richard Osman
His third book, so far as good as the first two, and funny, thought provoking and poignant in equal measure...

My other half loves those books! And I enjoy his quiz show, when I get a chance to see it!
