Is it my eyes coupled with the age of the photograph, but are the three props that are in shot feathered?
And might that explain the proximity to the ground sans undercarriage deployed?

Yes, 3 feathered. Proximity to ground is that it was probably a demo at an air show. Markings are post-war and that was quite typical. The good ol' days ....

Not the best quality shot ever, but I got this at RIAT in 2009 and thought it might be of interest; Saab Grippen doing a dump and burn during the first Saturday morning display slot, I was still walking towards my usual position (near the coffee & burger vans ) hence the camera was not properly set up.
I didn't even realise what I'd caught until I got home later and looked back at the day's take
