lancfan's Spitfire 22 racer ***FINISHED***
I will build my Spitfire 22 as PK430 of 610 Sq. RAuxAF in racing colours for the 1949 National Air Races, Elmdon. using the mark1 decals kindly given to me by O_T from sheet DMG7201.
To begin here is the usual sprue shot, I won't bother with the box shot as we all already know what that looks like.
The first job will be to pre-paint the cokpit area & wheels etc.
David.

Re: lancfan's Spitfire 22 racer
The cockpit is now ready for the fuselage halves to be joined, the cockpit door was cut away from the fuselage and a seat adjustment lever was added to the seat using stretched sprue and the straps were added using Tamiya tape, the control column was shortened as I felt it was too long and the oxygen pipe was added using copper wire. The inset image shows the lights painted on before the interior colour was applied to the wing lower half.
The fuselage halves and wing sections have now been joined and have been set aside to dry.

The wings have been glued to the fuselage, the next step will be to separate the elevators from the tailplanes and fasten the tailplanes in position with drooped elevators, the model will then be ready for masking for the basic paint finish.

Re: lancfan's Spitfire 22 racer
The airframe is now complete, the wing/fuselage joint has been primed in thick primer to ensure there are no gaps in the joint, the wheels wells have been painted in silver grey, the roof of the radiators in Medium Sea Grey and the ventral lights have been masked with Maskol. The radiators will be attached next and the model will then be ready for primer/first colour.

These new tools build themselves and need very little encouragement to play nice, I'm sure the decals will also co-operate.

The underside has been covered in two coats of Medium Sea Grey and the uppersurface has been painted with one coat of Ocean grey as a basecoat, the Dark Green will be applied next followed by a further coat of grey.

The next pictures show the uppersurface camouflage starting with the green and then the grey, these colours are now dry and the gloss varnish has now been applied ready for the decals.

Taking shape now with the top picture showing the model in gloss varnish and the shot below has the white band on the rear fuselage and the decals in place ready for matt varnish, detail painting has also begun withn the propeller and the black area aft of the cockpit.

Are you going to dull coat it? In any case, nice build and can't wait to see a third completion.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!
