Well, if you're going to go completely overboard... Wasn't there a TV project a few years back to build a 1:1 Spitfire kit? How about boxing that? A bit harsh on the wallet, maybe, but it would confirm Airfix as the King of Spitfires..Wookie13 wrote:Go the whole hog - 1/24th Lancaster. One in the eye for that large B17!!!!!!!

It's amazing how at first glance it looks just like a regular Airfix kit, until you spot the people!

I have James May's Toy stories on DVD. The Airfix episode involved with the giant spitfire was great.Zee28 wrote:rob_van_riel wrote:Well, if you're going to go completely overboard... But why would anyone want to see Beyonce rather then paint a figure of James?

A Typhoon maybe...??BWP wrote:Airfix have stated publicly that there will be a new 1/24th kit in 2014. Furthermore, they said we ought to be able to guess what it will be.....
After the recent 1/72 Tiffie, I expect they must have some very good recent research/measurements to work from.
Currently on bench: ICM 1/72 Tupolev Tu-2
Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
To some extent, Airfix seems to be working from oldest kits forward, replacing anything they think remains a commercially viable subject. So, what does that leave? The safest bet, better than 50/50 IMHO, is the Beaufighter. Of the big 4-engines, probably the Halifax, which is not as new or as good as the other candidate, the Stirling. Other plausible candidates by this standard - Defiant, Me-262, Sturmovik, and Ju-88 stand out.
In 1/76, Panther, Tiger, Churchill, SdKfz 234 and Sherman all would sell well and certainly need replacement. Expect the re-release of the Coastal Fort and Gun Emplacement for the D-Day anniversary. If they wanted to sell a real bunch, they should upgrade the gun to something less toy-like.

Camel in 1/24th scale (manageable size, most iconic aircraft of WW1 for the anniversary)
Puma and Stirling in 1/72 (both new tools from Corgi)
Hunter and Scimitar in 1/48...
...and a Bentley Continental GT3 in 1/32

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
OK. For the 1/24th scale kit here are some guesses, some serious and some not
Gladiator (I'm begging ya. This is one beautiful aircraft and it will look superb)
Tiger Moth (A bit of a no brainer as far as sales are concerned)
Messerschmitt 110 (for no other reason but it would look superb next to their Mossie)
P38 Lightning (see above for reasoning)
Hurricane MKII (seems plausible)
P47 Thunderbolt (to continue the line up of single engined fighters)
F4U Corsair (see above)
Gazelle or Lynx (did anyone say the new 24th scale was to be fixed wing?)
Landrover (Did anyone say it was an Aircraft?)
WW2 Jeep (see above)
de Havilland Chipmunk (Because I want one, no other reason)
All the best.

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
A P-38 lightning would look insanely good in a big scale Greg, but I doubt they will go there.
A P-40 however, that might be something since you can have dozens of different national markings for them, including all of the big three.

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I'm tempted to say Centurion. The mould needs replacement and as no other manufacturer has attempted (die-cast excluded) a 1/76 or 1/72 kit, I would suggest the field is all theirs for the taking...

Oh Wow, I'd absolutely LOVE a 1/24th 110Gregers wrote:Messerschmitt 110 (for no other reason but it would look superb next to their Mossie)
By far my fave suggestion up to now.
Realistically though, I'd have to guess either:
New Spitfire mark, maybe a IX
Mosquito bomber variant (less work than a whole new kit)
Typhoon (the new 1/72 is great)
Of the three, I'd prefer the Typhoon - but expect it'll be a Spit or Mossie

Ara398, I. Hope you are bang on about the Centurion. That old thing needs to go. Mine is slated for demolition. Didn't Cromwell do one in 72nd? And a new Defiant in 72nd as well would be awesome too.
