Paul's List

Post by PaulBradley »

I wanted to include a ship or two, but the stark realization that they'd probably not survive being packed in my checked bag sobered me up on that idea. Given that, I have a selection of aircraft models to offer:

First up, a mini-theme:
Airfix Jet Provost T.3 - convert to T.1
Airfix Jet Provost T.3 - build as T.3
Matchbox Percival Provost
Airfix Jet Provost T.5 - already built

Inpact/Pyro 48 Bleriot XI - convert to Swiss 2-seater

Airfix Hawker Hart - suitably tarted up, and I could start this one for the Silver Wings GB

Airfix HP Jetstream - started, T.2 conversion

Kader Folland Gnat F.1 - would make a good comparison to the new Airfix kit...

Skybirds 86 DeHavilland Hornet F.1 - a Shared Build project later this year

...and a further mini-theme:
Frog Buccaneer - already built
Airfix NA.39 Buccaneer - the original Airfix kit, built as one of the first two prototypes

I'd be bringing two models for the display, except for the Provost Posse if that's what ends up being chosen.

Thoughts?
Paul

I'd be interested to see you convert the Jet Provost T3 to a T1. I have been thinking about that for a while. The long legs are easy to scratch but I've been stumped at the canopy for a while as it's not a T3 type, more leaning to the Piston Provost canopy, but not exactly the same. I did get some shots of the real thing when we were at RAF Cosford after Telford. Did you take some at the time? If not I'll see if I can dig them out...

There's an Alan Hall conversion article in a very old Airfix magazine that I have - and using a Provost canopy is definitely going to be the way to go (I don't have the skill to carve a balsa former and crash mould a new one...). I have a spare Matchbox one I can use.

Photos - no, I didn't get any shots of that one, so would be most grateful if you could find them, should this be the route I choose to go.

Paul, I have the Hart in my list, and for the GB - I can easily switch to the Demon (aka Hart Fighter) and will do so.

Hmmm, I also have some of the Napoleonics figures - perhaps we could set aside a small section of table for displaying these, pre-Waterloo 200th?

Looks like I only took 3 photos of the JP Mk 1 at Cosford as, if I remember correctly, it was poorly positioned for good photos. Looks like I concentrated on the u/c and nose as those are the most different areas of the Mk1 from later marks:

I also have an A3 page of 1/72nd scale plans:

I have no fish in this game, but I like the idea of the Provost Posse in general.

Many thanks, Alan - I've bookmarked it!

Just a quick update. I have started the Hart, though you won't see any real updates on the forum, as I'll present a short article in Classic Plastic. And I've also started the old Frog Gypsy Moth, also for Classic Plastic, but which will also make the trip.

I booked my flights over the weekend, so I am committed now!!

OK, so I don't think the JP mini-theme is going to make it - I won't have time now....

Slow progress on the Hart and Gipsy Moth, but I'll get those finished in time, and I'll also bring the two Frogs I'm building a the moment - Wyvern and Oxford. Also planning on bringing a Frog Fairey Firefly. Or two.... ;-) Much is going to depend on how tightly I can pack them for the flight.
