Chuck's Kawasaki KI-28 'Bob' in 1/72 *Finished*
My forth build for the month will be the Kawasaki Ki-28 'Bob' by AZ Models in 1/72
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

I do like IJA subjects. The markings included in this release are what ifs. I really like RS kits, but his whiffs just bug the ever-loving' bejeezus out of me.
Really nothing pithy to say.

Not that I'm an expert on the IJA/IJN but I don't think I knew this aircraft existed ....

It was a competitor to the Nakajima Ki-27 'Claude'. Kawasaki built one which flew in 1936, but lost the competition.jRatz wrote:Not that I'm an expert on the IJA/IJN but I don't think I knew this aircraft existed ....

More precisely, it was a competitor to the Ka-14. Nice to see both in this GB.
Really nothing pithy to say.

Even more precisely, the entry in IJAAF was named Ka-18, the Ka-14 was for the JNAF competition. In any case both the Ki-28 and Ka-18 lost to the Ki-27.johnsan wrote:More precisely, it was a competitor to the Ka-14. Nice to see both in this GB.

Almost. The Ka-14 was for the competition for IJA's new fighter that resulted in the win by Nakajima's Ki-27 Nate. Mitsubishi refined the design to the A5M for IJN use.
I'm not sure where Ka becomes Ki. The Ki-60 was definitely not a production type, but had a small pre-production series. Some of which may have seen combat in Burma with the pre-series Ki-44. FAOW has an interesting little book on IJAAF prototype aircraft. Lots of photos and lots of text, all in Nihongo. I sure wish I understood and could read Japanese.

Basic build is finished. On to the painting. I must say that this kit is not one my more challenging experiences. Then again, compared to my Roden He-111e very few kits are challenging.

You know, the stance of that plane just looks wrong. Not saying your build or the kit is wrong. It just doesn't look right. Course it could be the angle from which it's photographed.
Really nothing pithy to say.

That is one pretty little plane about which I was unaware before this thread, so thanks. Of course now that I've found it & want one, they're like rocking horse poop out there. I'll be looking forward to the rest of this thread.

That's what I thought also, seems the gear legs are a bit long, almost like they would be in the air and the oleos dropped.

Looking at the picture here:
http://hud607.fire.prohosting.com/uncom ... kitai.html;
I'd say that the legs are too long, and the wheels are in the "in flight" position and so are sticking out of the spats too much. The photo in the link does not show the flare at the top rear of the legs. I think the legs need to sit deeper in the lower wings (or chop off the flared bit! ).

Paint and touch-up are finished. Now, on to decals and weathering.

What paints did you use, Chuck?

Model Master Japanese army light grey. I normally use White Ensign but I seem to have lacked that particular color and no time to buy more and complete the build.johnsan wrote:What paints did you use, Chuck?
