Daz's Warbird-whiffer '109, part 2! **FINISHED**
Daz's Warbird-whiffer '109, part 2! **FINISHED**
My second build in this GB will be this:
The subject matter will be the first DB-engined '109 restored to flight status since the end of World War Two.
Like the subject of my Buchon build, D-FMBB started life with a Merlin engine, although she was one of the six taxiing airframes used in Tablada for filming Battle of Britain. In the late 1970s, a rebuild to fly was started in Germany, and the aircraft flew for the first time under Daimler-Benz power as a Bf109G-6 in 1982. She made a few public appearances before an accident befell her, and a second rebuild commenced using a new fuselage. The aircraft has been flying since then with MBB, now EADS (who also own D-FEHD, along with one other).
I haven't built one of these before, but if it's anything like the Spitfire kit, I'm sure I'll like it!

D'you know, I've only just this second realised it says "Arii" on the box!
Still, it's all the same. Arii/Otaki/Matchbox...!

Right, I hit a snag concerning the original subject of this build - namely the black radio code letters on the fuselage side - so I shall be turning this one into the subject I originally had for my other Arii '109 build...
I really wanted to build the other model into this JG7 scheme anyway, so this has worked out well!

Sorry, chaps, my build has stormed ahead of my updates!
I promise I'll post photos later. The '109 is now almost finished, with just some of the fiddly parts to be painted and fitted. Although that's after the fun and games of that mottled camouflage scheme! The basic parts of the scheme are applied, with just the mottling to be applied - will be using a scrappy bit of sponge for this, so fingers crossed it works!

Sprue shot:
Cockpit 1
2
Fuselage 1
Looks like an aeroplane now!
First coat of reddish-brown going on:
Camouflage 1
Camouflage 2
I'm thinking the reddish-brown is too red (my other option was dark earth, and that looked too light), but in certain lights it looks just right.
Also, I'm debating whether or not to mix paints for the blue part of the fuselage band, or just to simply go out and get some blue paint?

I'm gonna call this one done - the only thing left to do is the blue band around the fuselage, so I'd say this is 99% finished!
One thing I wasn't too sure of was the swastika. In the photos I've seen of the Buchon, I can't make out if it's just a white outline, or if it's the full black/white article. I went for the former, however, as it's something different. Also, I could never make out the werke nummer on the rudder, so this one came from the decal sheet I had. The other minor difference to the Buchon scheme is the ID number: I didn't have the guts to try painting it red!!
I'll be honest, I could have done better with this one I reckon.

Cool. Really like the scalloped wings. I keep thinking Airfix Hawk.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Thanks for the positive comments.
Judging by the responses it's had on Facebook, I didn't do as badly as I first thought!
