Ha! I meant a messy workbench shot as compared my usual photo tent shots.

A coat of Aqua Gloss sealed the decals in after I polished them to reduce some carrier film edges. The Master brass pitot was never going to take the stripey decal so I brush painted the stripes by hand using good old Vallejo acrylics.

Then it was out with the artists oil paints for some washes and staining...

Wash on...

Wash off and artists oils streaking and staining. Its difficult to see in the pics as it is on a glossy surface, hopefully a matt coat will increase the contrast.

This is all that is left to add plus the canopy of course. This lot was all painted and weathered at the same time, the oleos on the gear legs was easy to achieve as I used SAC white metal parts so simply scraped them back with a new blade to reveal shiny metal The Missiles were robbed from another kit as there are no stores included aside from the tanks as is always the way with Hasegawa. They are painted green as per Swedish AF drill rounds. Not sure of the exact shade of Green but I used Hu80 Grass Green looks OK.

Amazingly looking Dragon. What ratios are you using for the wash, 1/10 - 1/20 paint/thinner?

Thanks chaps.
Marek; there is no hard and fast ratio I use. It is simply a "smear" each of Paynes Grey and Burnt Umber artists oils. I used slightly less of the Burnt Umber on this one, then use a pippete with approx half a millilitre of white spirits to mix the paint into. You get what amounts to very dirty thinners, which is the wash. Brush it on into the panel lines, leave for a couple of hours and wipe down removing the excess leaving as little or as much peripheral staining as you want/need. That is the good thing with oils, they take a good 24 hrs to dry out leaving you plenty of working time.

It is beautiful. I use to see them and recon lansen flying over the ferry my mom worked (Gdansk - Nynashamn) back in 80ies. (happened actually twice with Draken, once with Lansen, the last one quite low). Exquisite model

It's a beatiful model, a treasure.
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......
