Excellent work and the Spit project is very interesting, builds are always a bit more interesting when some history is involved I feel and particularly as in this case, where the veteran pilot is still with us.

Thanks chaps, still hunting for Spitfire info....meanwhile......the Bearcat continues.....

I hit the inevitable Aires wall when trying to get it all squeezed in. The problem I found was the Aires Instrument panel stood too high fouling the cockpit coaming. The side walls also fouled the IP so needed trimming. After some pushing and shoving it all clicked in and was secured with CA and lo and behold it all disappeared from view
The cowling here is just a push fit which will ease painting and save me having to mask off the engine, talking of which I added some lead wire ignition lines to the engine, but once again naff all will be seen on the finished model so its all rather academic.
The wheel bays fitted a treat which was a welcome relief after the fight with the cockpit and firewalls then got a blast of yellow paint before I got the wings on which fitted without issue. I did have to replace the oil cooler intake splitters with plasticard as the moulded ones needed removing to get the gear bays in.

Had a blast finishing up the Bearcat
Finishing touches :
Panel line wash using MiG Neutral wash.
Undercarriage washed using Tamiya X-19 Smoke.
Engine airbrushed Alclad Aluminium with Neutral Grey gear reduction housing, fitted with cowling.
Prop tips and hub painted and prop decals added and weathered/scratched.
Leading edges trimmed with Bare Metal Foil Matt Aluminium.
Tail wheel and main wheels painted and attached with gear doors.
Smoke pod weathered and attached.
Exhaust staining added.
Canopy/windscreen washed and unmasked and fitted.
Wingtip nav lights attached and painted.
Aerial wires added .
Satin finish to knock back the glossiness ad seal everything in.

She will be at Telford for closer inspection. Hope you like her!

Great models Mike. I really love what you've done with the Bearcat. I built one a few years ago but it's not a patch on the masterpiece you've produced 8-)

Thanks chaps, been super busy since Telford working on the new Airfix Gnat T.1 in 1/48 scale.
All I added to the stock kit was some seatbelts to the pilots shoulders so he looks strapped in properly and a new pitot from Albion Alloys telescoping tubing, otherwise it straight-from-the-box.
Painted with GSI Aqueous and Tamiya acrylics, Wilder Smoke panel line wash and some streaking and staining finished up with a Xtracrylix Satin varnish.
The stand is an Airfix stand (available separately) sanded, polished and sprayed with Alclad Steel. It made a nice change for me to build something gear up.

Hope you like it!
