Accurate? since when.

Hi Guys,

I've just realised that I've dropped a clanger - I'd forgotton that along with the Classic Jet GB I'm also in the Biggles GB next month. And i'm also on a course for 5 days through work. Which all means I'm probably not goign to get much done in September.

Do you guys want to crack on and I'll join in when I can, or would you like to postpone until later in the year?

Sorry about that.

Stuart

Just catching up. I don't mind a delay till end of September. Maybe to October 1st?
Sometime about the 18th/20th I'll be out of it for a week to ten days - have to build a 1/1 scale racing car, so I'll not get much done on a Harrier during that period either,
T'wud be nice if we all started about the same time, but not absolutely necessary.

I have just got back from holiday and missed the start of this thread, I have the early 1/24 scale Harrier that I picked up for £8 from a charity shop and need an excuse to start. So if you have space for one more I will play.

As I dont plan to build too many 1/24 Harriers, and when I take this out to shows its going to be an attention grabber I've been considering if I should buy the etch/resin set for this. At £55 it aint cheap. And its mostly photo-etch, which I'm still learning to use properly.

I was thinking about doing that too, but I decided against it due to the cost.

Although the detail is lacking in places, well ok everywhere, it’s not too bad and does look like it should be fairly easy to add some scratch built detail to jazz it up a bit. Looking at the cockpit I didn’t actually think what was supplied was bad (The IP seems quite nice), just not busy enough. I’m going to try to add some detail – Pipes, placards, levers etc. which added to a hopefully decent paintjob should be enough.

However there where two places where I decided I definitely couldn’t live with the supplied kit detail, one was the seat, which is ok but very plain. And the other was the utterly awful intakes, which have hardly any Aux-flap detail at all. So I’ve purchased a nice resin Bang seat, and a new set of resin intakes with the correct flap configuration for a shut-down engine. Hopefully these will do enough to lift the detail a bit.

I have actually considered buying Airfix new tool 1/72 harrier to use as a guide…

So the question is guys, whose going to build the kit so that the wing can be removed to display the engine, and who’s going to glue it all together? I’m in two minds at present. I think it would be pretty cool to be able to do that, but I’m not sure how strong the model will be with a loose wing ( and the fit is pretty crap)

Cheers, I’m actually looking forward to building this now.

Its the seat that I'm really only interested in doing well. I didn't know about the intakes. Where did you buy your resin bits from?

I just googled 1/24 Harrier seat, but it was from Heritage aviation - I think the website is called something like ' Kits for cash.com' - they sell various resin kits and upgrades they make themselves. They have quite a few resin upgrades for the Harrier.

As for the intakes, take a look at them, the Aux-flap detail is horrible. I'll take some pics when I can.

Cheers
